This painting is essentially a culmination of the things I liked best from several of my previous floral works. I wanted strong highlights in the petals, strong shadows on the leaves, a gradated background, and an intentionally stylistically primitive vase which would force the eye up to the petals of the piece. It is originally 10.25"x14" in size and is painted on Arches 140# cold pressed paper using 18th century reproduction watercolor paint, Winsor & Newton watercolor paint, and Daniel Smith watercolor paint. This combination of paints and paper create very interesting textures in the leaves and background of the piece.
