This painting was inspired by a fellow artist, W. Bradley Elsberry, who created a dress made from bark for an artist's fashion event. The idea captured my imagination and this idea evolved. The woman symbolically serves as sanctuary to the birds in mid-ocean. Although it also relates, as many of my works do, of the relationship with my wife and muse, who magically appeared as my personal island of sanctuary during a particularly heavy open ocean crossing.
